Year 10 Girls’ Hockey Success

Posted on Dec 19, 2019

This term our Year 10 girls’ hockey team qualified for the county finals as Taunton area champions.

They had to play 3 schools, Kings of Wessex, Chilton Trinity and Holyrood in the final play-offs.

Having not lost a single match last year and losing out on the gold medal on goal difference, the girls were determined to go one better in 2019.

They started with real determination winning 3-0 against Chilton Trinity. Next was Kings of Wessex who had drawn with Holyrood. This was a tough match and the girls did well to go 1-0 up, unfortunately Kings of Wessex did not give up and managed a sneaky equaliser! It was all down to the last match against the reigning champs Holyrood. The girls started with real determination, the teams were well matched, but we managed an early goal. The girls capitalised on this by scoring a second and began to look in control and dominant only for Holyrood to sneak a goal and make it 2-1. Holyrood put them under real pressure in the last 4 minutes of the game with 4 penalty corners. Ella Pursey as goalie saved the day and all corners were successfully defended. Final score 2-1 to Kingsmead and County Champions.

Very well deserved and a brilliant team performance. The team are now unbeaten for two years!
