On Wednesday 16th January three student teams took part in the first round of the Rotary Youth Speaks Competition, held at Danesfield School in Williton. The teams, each consisting of three students, were required to present a speech to the judges and audience on a topic of their choosing to strict timescales before answering questions put to them.
The teams had been preparing for the competition since last October, dedicating most of their lunchtimes to practising and perfecting their speeches. All their hard work paid off on the night with the judges commending all teams and selecting two to move forward to the next stage of the competition which takes place on 6th February in Taunton.
Well done to all involved and thank you to Mrs Gibbs and Miss Whitcombe for working with the students. Special mention to Oban Mackie who was recognised as best speaker and to Alfie Eagle who stood in as a main speaker with only four days notice and was word perfect in his 6 minute speech.
