Design Technology: Resistant Materials

Welcome to the Kingsmead School Design Technology Learning Team.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7 & 8) students learn how to successfully shape a wide range of materials to produce attractive and useful objects. Some of the projects include a decorative mirror, a letter holder and a piece of pewter cast jewellery.

At Key Stage 4 (Years 9, 10 & 11) students study AQA Design Technology: Resistant Materials. Our students will continue learning about the design process and additional making processes to produce more demanding objects. In Year 10 students will begin work on their controlled assessment.

To further enrich their learning, Year 9 students will have the opportunity to join the GreenPower Challenge to design, build and race a racing car against other schools in England.

The department has organised the opportunity for students to participate in the Enigma Project, puzzle days and rocket building through the School’s Challenge Days.
